Mission & Vision By David Sandusky
Organizations present goals and objectives though mission and vision statements. Not always correctly in many cases: a vision reads like a mission and a mission like a tag line. When done right, a powerful communication tool. Imagine the power you bring to your team when they can identify with your personal goals and objectives – now imagine the power your team has when they too can share personal goals and how they contribute to the mission of your team/company.
Let’s start with you, your personal mission and vision. Mission: Your Monday morning hop out of bed with purpose statement. Should be short and clear so others can correctly evangelize who you are. Vision: Focus on an image of success. Your ultimate vision might look like a legacy…other timed goals provides a plan working towards your ultimate vision. This would translate to a significant way you manage your career in contrast to the stuttering effect of just doing what is required. Take this seriously and write a mission and vision statement. Because it is likely you are too close to yourself, have a member of you Personal Board of Advisors review and provide feedback. Have this great quote in mind while you do this:
“The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.” – Michelangelo
