Innovation Success Stories

This just goes to show you how abstract and interesting the Internet can be. I did a Google search on the keyword “why” and I found Scott Berkun a best-selling author and kick-ass speaker. He writes books and essays, lectures at Fortune 500 companies & top universities on creativity, management and a fun mix of everything else. It was late at night and I started his video lecture on innovation he did at Carnegie Mellon University. He went into several Innovation Success Stories and really dove into the real stories behind these successes.

The real stories were about failure, the desire to solve a problem and to keep trying new and innovate ways to get to the end result. One of the quotes he pulled out was a quote that is from the CEO of 3-M.

“As our business grows, it becomes increasingly necessary to delegate responsibility and to encourage men and women to exercise their initiative. This requires considerable tolerance. Those men and women, to whom we delegate authority and responsibility, if they are good people, are going to want to do their jobs in their own way.

Mistakes will be made. But if a person is essentially right, the mistakes he or she makes are not as serious in the long run as the mistakes management will make if it undertakes to tell those in authority exactly how they must do their jobs.

Management that is destructively critical when mistakes are made kills initiative. And it’s essential that we have many people with initiative if we are to continue to grow.”

We see progressive companies like Google allowing their employees to work on other projects 20% of the time. If there is success it might become another Google product. There are probably many other companies using this same philosophy. I think it is a great culture to embrace and the results can be enormous. So next time you feel like taking a risk, take it it might be the best thing I/you/we ever did!

This meeting was a Jerry Falwell event, but don’t pay a lot o0f attention to him because the message in Art Williams speech is powerful. If your day is not going as expected and you want a “little pick me up” this just might do the trick. Powerful speech by Art Williams.

Learn from a average guy who made it really big, over $100 Billion big in 10 years. Art Williams talks about it, he says JUST DO IT. Harv Ecker talks about it. (Harv says if you have broken leg show up to work, and he is right, I know a guy how had a broken leg and was just starting out his drains business and he could not afford to tak a day off, today it is a successful small business).

Steps to being successful in business

1) Get excited

2) Have a dream

3) Gotta stand for something

4) Be controversial

5) Total commitment

6) Treat people good, make them feel special, we all want to feel that way

7) Have the desire and will to win

Be a leader

9) Do whatever it takes to get the job done

10) Just do it

Interview with Ph.D. Psychologist PPC Adwords Guy

I recently did an interview with Glenn Livingston (check out part 3) to talk about PPC or Google Adwords. One thing Glenn “gets” is people and their behavior. Obama and McCain Huge financial small businesses meltdown

Expecting the economy to get better? If we re-elect a Dermocrat or a Republican don ‘t expect a different result. At this point in time it is turning into madness with the big money corruption these guys buy into. Time to get another party in here to balance things out. Funny how it is the independants that are supposed to swing the election but the media and the debate committiee won’t let Nader or Barr near the door. We aren’t in enough pain yet. But it is coming.

Raymond Keating, chief economist for the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council argues that the presidential candidates’ proposals for changing employer regulations could potentially add a huge financial burden to small businesses – even more than the tax plans everyone’s arguing about. His analysis suggests that Sen. Obama’s regulatory proposals would be far more financially burdensome to businesses than Sen. McCain’s “sketchier” outline of what regulations he would push for.

Sen. Obama, for instance, supports expanding the Family and Medical Leave Act to apply to all businesses with 25 or more employees, compared to the businesses with 50 or more employees that must adhere to it now. What’s more, Sen. Obama supports changing the labor rules to make it easier for labor unions to organize, and tying minimum wage increases to inflation. “These key measures from Obama would be anything but positive for small businesses, and therefore, the economy,” Mr. Keating writes.

Interview Dr. Ivan Misner Business Networking International (BNI)

In this interview with Dr. Ivan Misner worlds #1 networker. Have you ever heard of BNI? (Business Networking International). BNI is the Facebook and MySpace of Business networking, as a matter of fact they have over 5,000 business networking meetings per week

I knew that once I landed the interview with the world’s #1 networker Dr. Ivan Misner I felt that he might be able to share some real tidbits for success and he does not disappoint. He is a passionate man about networking and about helping people. We covered a lot of ground in this interview including Dr. Misners’ new book The 29% Solution which can also be found at 29percentsolution.com. He will teach you a 52 week networking strategy in the book.

What I really enjoyed about meeting Ivan is his authenticity and his willingness to share and not hold anything back. He felt like a long lost friend sharing intimate details and keys to success including his meetings with Sir. Richard Branson and he shares the tips that Branson taught him. He goes into detail on how Branson treats everyone with respect no matter their background or income. Misner also talks about his experience in visiting Branson’s Space Port in the Mohave.

Most full time college professors who teach business have never been in business, unlike professors of medicine who are actual doctors who teach medicine, same is true for law professors who are real lawyers, but not so for business professors. This information is coming from a “professor,” Dr. Misner. The point here is that networking is not taught in schools but it is taught by Misner and BNI.

“Success is the uncommon application and commitment of common knowledge,” says Misner. We all know what it takes to be successful, passion, vision, hard work, luck etc, but we have to apply the uncommon application in order to be a success.

Interview with Small Business Advocate and Libertarian Vice Presidential Candidate Wayne Allyn Root.

If you care about the future of the USA you want to hear this podcast. Wayne Allyn Root is a man of passion and the first “citizen politician” on a major ticket. This man is on fire! He comes out loud and clear and right now Bob Barr and Wayne Allyn Root can use the help of small businesses to help them get elected and rebuild America. Bob Barr and Wayne Allyn Root of the Libertarian Party must work to be included in the National debates.

We cover a lot of ground in government waste and the broken systems. Wayne says that many of the presidential candidates know anything about small businesses, hence this is why they have not done any interviews with My Success Gateway, LLC. Wayne is an entrepreneur, he knows what it is like to run a business on fumes, he understands failure, he even wrote the book on The Joy of Failure! He promises to NOT touch your wallet. He says that 4 years of Barack Obama won’t change anything except for higher taxes and it is like voting for 4 years of bigger government similar to Karl Marx. He says voting for John McCain is like four more years of war like George W. Bush and four more years of warrant less wiretaps.

BobBarr2008 just hired their fund raiser. They are about to embark on a national tour. These guys are just getting started. Bob Barr and Wayne Root are polling at 6 or 7 million votes according to the Zogby International Polls as of July 21, 2008. If they can get to the 15% threshold they will be included in the National Debates. Root says he has a large constituency of 27 million small businesses, 4 million home schooling parents and over 50 million poker players, 12 million played online. Root says he is known as the “King of Vegas.” Root is a “Barry Goldwater Libertarian.” Cutting government down to size and reducing taxes.

Lawyers destroy deals and gum up deals and most politicians are lawyers. They create laws to show how smart they are. “Lawyers are ruining our country.” Wayne goes into global cooling and global warming. We touched on so many subjects in a 40 minute podcast. He refers to the Republicans and Democrats are “big and bigger” and “dumb and dumber.” We spend billions on the War on Drugs and we have nothing to show for it other than ruining people’s lives. The country is off track according to Root and he is doing something about it by running for public office.

Amazing and GREAT Success Story!

This is a riveting interview. I met Mark Anthony Garrett through Youtube. I went to his site to check him out and I saw that he was raised in foster care. This immediately peeked my interest and I had to get to know this guy and his story, because I knew he had a just a few more challenges than the rest of us. I also knew without meeting him he had a great attitude, life has thrown a lot of obstacles at Mark Anthony and he will discuss how he grows through those obstacles vs. goes through the obstacles.

In this interview with Mark Anthony Garrett he talks about life and his life. He is authentic, vulnerable, well spoken, clear with his message and someone who is making a difference on a daily basis to hundreds if not thousands of lives. He has a story and now the experience we can all learn from.

Let’s touch on some of the highlights: His mom was a prostitute, he came into foster care as an infant. He was adopted at seven years old then he was sexually abused. He was in and out of gangs and he was in drugs. He contemplated suicide. He talks about how he made the choice not to commit suicide with the gun at his head and the help of a friend. All the while he had mentors who got through to him. Now Mark Anthony is giving back that mentorship wisdom to others, especially kids in foster care.

Mark Anthony Garrett walks the walk and talks the talk. I look forward to learning more of the valuable lessons he has to teach. He is living proof that no obstacle can’t be overcome.
